While you won’t be on campus when taking courses at an online college, that doesn’t mean you’ll simply be on your own if you run into problems. Online classes do often require students to be more independent and self-motivated, but if you’re not understanding concepts, need assistance in planning our your schedule or just need someone to talk with, there are resources out there to help online students. If you ever have a problem during your online degree program, these individuals can form your support system.
Professors. Your professors should be available to help you with a myriad of questions and issues with coursework either through email or by telephone. They are the best people to contact if you ever have a question about lectures, homework or tests or if there is a subject from class that you’re unable to grasp.
Classmates. Whether you’re looking for help or just some camaraderie, talking with classmates in chat rooms, online discussion boards and email can be a great way to connect. Most online courses require participation online with other students, so they shouldn’t be complete strangers.
Academic Counselors. If your issue is related to your program or your courses more generally, academic counselors can be a big help. They will help you choose courses that best meet your needs and fulfill school requirements. They can also tell you when its best to add or drop a course and how to graduate more quickly.
School Administrators. Students who need transcripts, have issues with college credit or funding need to speak with school administrators. Students should be able to find their contact information easily, and with a simple email or call start working towards a resolution.
Technical Support. If you can’t seem to access online material or have consistent problems with completing online coursework, you’ll need to get in touch with the online college’s technical support team. These professionals can generally quickly and easily get your problem resolved or tell you the steps to start working on it.
Essentially, there are the same resources available to students attending an online university as any other school out there. The methods by which you interact and get in touch with them may be a bit different, but the support you’ll receive should be of the same caliber at any quality online education institution.
