A biology degree will give students the chance to explore a wide variety of disciplines. Usually a Ph.D. is required to carry out one’s own research. By combining a biology course load with advanced classes in technology, degree holders will expand their job prospects and ability to succeed in graduate school.

Job prospects for biologists are growing daily as the world emphasizes environmental protection. As more and more money is invested in environmental studies, biologists with the ability to design and carry out research will be highly coveted. By gaining skills in technology and medicine, biologists will also be able to move into the massive field of biotechnology. In addition, biologists with additional engineering training have the opportunity to gain employment with a variety of bioengineering firms. Salaries for starting biologists without other training can range from $30,000 to $50,000, but the high end for biologists with advanced degrees is much greater. As with most undergraduate degrees, a biology degree holder will make him or herself infinitely more valuable by receiving an advanced degree and by combining their education with other related fields.
