Engineering & Science
The vast field of Engineering and Science is a
growing and lucrative focus in the world today. Engineering degrees set students up to be ready for the workplace upon graduation and science degrees open up dozens of avenues for the degree holder. With an undergraduate degree in engineering or science, the degree holder is prepared for a whole host of graduate and doctoral programs which will allow students to ascend in their field, gaining new responsibilities and challenges that in turn lead to higher salaries. Both science and engineering focus heavily on math and the ability to apply mathematic principles to scientific theory. Degree seekers will be encouraged to develop their problem-solving skills and will be forced to have the patience and commitment to work through complex and difficult problems to develop answers to real world challenges.
Within both science and engineering, students will have the option of keeping a more broad area of focus by taking general courses or may also choose to specialize within a specific field such as aeronautical engineering or microbiology.
Room for growth within the field is expansive as a renewed focus is being paid to science and math education and as an entire “green economy” is being developed. Science and engineer degree holders who choose to specialize in green technology and other green industries will find a growing job market and the satisfaction that comes with a vitally important job.
Salaries vary across the diverse fields of science and engineering, but there are many opportunities to make a high income with a degree in this area of study. Engineers start at approximately $60,000 with plenty of vertical growth for engineers with specialization and experience. Many science degree holders go on to receive more specialized training in a particular field with either masters or doctoral training and can earn an average of $82,000 with an advanced degree.
