Community outreach coordinators implement programs that educate the public about a particular organization, issue, or cause. They often serve as liaisons between a community and academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, or government agencies. This can require them to appear at public events and deliver speeches and presentations for informational or fundraising purposes.

How to Become a Community Outreach Coordinator

In these types of majors, students learn about the field of education, how to develop educational programs, and how to supervise staff and personnel. Common courses include community analysis, educational leadership, organization theory, voluntarism and the nonprofit Sector, developing staff and community relations, school communications and public relations, and administration and supervision of the instructional program.
Most education programs also require students to spend a year teaching under the supervision of a certified educational instructor. Often a license is required to attain a teaching or administrative position, which usually requires one to complete a teaching program, participate in supervised practice, and pass a professional assessment test. It is not uncommon for coordinators to begin their careers in teaching positions before advancing to administration positions in community outreach.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of education administrators is expected to increase by 8% within the next decade. This is due to schools and other organizations having more administrative responsibilities, increasing enrollment in educational services, and a growing amount of programs which need administrators to oversee them.
Those with advanced degrees in education administration, experience coordinating community programs and solid management and problem-solving skills will attain the best and most lucrative positions. According to PayScale, the annual salary of community outreach coordinators ranges from $29,855 to $42,448.
