You may think of summer as a time to veg out and recuperate from the long school year, and that can be a great way to spend your summer. But there are lots of other options available once you get tired of watching daytime TV and hanging out by the pool. Here are some of the ways that you can have a fun, productive summer vacation.
Take enriching trips. Instead of hitting the clearest, sunniest beach you can find, think about taking a trip to a location that can supplement your education and learning experience. Regional and national parks offer beautiful, educational ways to enjoy your vacation. Trips to monuments and other national treasures are great options as well, and can even be integrated with existing travel plans.
Donate your time. Improve your life and the lives of others by spending some time volunteering this summer. Volunteering is a gratifying way to spend your summer, and it’s a great way to meet others who care about the community. Additionally, volunteering may count for college credit, and it always looks great on a resume. Food good about the way you’re spending your summer.
Take classes. Catch up on courses you might have missed during the fall or spring semesters, or focus on an intense course of study. Summer school can help you take courses that were not available to you, as well as get you on track for graduation within your timetable if you’re behind.
Do an internship or find a job. Working may not sound like the most appealing thing to do this summer, but it can pay off in more than just a paycheck. Internships offer a great way to build experience that you can use in college and once you graduate, and they’re great resume builders. You might even get a real job out of it. Working is helpful as well, offering a paycheck and experience that can serve you now and in the future.
Complete personal projects. If you have home repairs that need attention, art projects you’d like to wrap up, or a novel that you’ve been dying to write, take advantage of the large block of time available this summer can make good progress on your project.
Summer is a great time to blow off steam, but don’t forget to make an effort to be productive during your time off. You’ll thank yourself for it in the future, and enjoy what you built when others were just getting sunburned.
